Welcome to Parkinsons.wikia.com, a comprehensive on-line resource for and by all members of the world-wide Parkinson's community. Because our site is a wiki, you are cordially invited and strongly encouraged to become an active contributor/editor. Parkinsons.wikia.com is intended to provide continuously updated, balanced, unbiased and accurate information about the manifold aspects of the PD experience. It will also provide diverse forums in which all who are affected by or involved with Parkinson's can give voice to their experiences, advice, observations and concerns.
Parkinsons.wikia.com will provide information and interactive forums on such topics as:
- understanding the complex, multi-systemic nature, variable manifestations, and pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease;
- the social, emotional and economic consequences encountered by those afflicted by Parkinson’s and by those who become care-givers as a result;
- current basic and translational bio-medical research, including availability of experimental trials;
- traditional pharmacological and alternative therapies;
- pharmacological development and research, including the availability of clinical drug trials;
- public institutions that promote and regulate Parkinson’s research, as well as provide educational information;
- private organizations which give grants for bio-medical research, publish educational materials, and foster supportive services;
- patients’ quality of life and experiences of their illnesses, encompassing ways in which they address or cope with their particular circumstances, nature of patient-doctor relationships, care-giver needs, and advocacy roles;
- rights and responsibilities of clinical research participants, informed consent process, and ethical issues in Parkinson’s clinical research;
- creativity and Parkinson’s disease; and
- the effects of exercise on Parkinson’s disease.
While these topics are central to the Parkinson's Disease experience for many, the list is not all inclusive. With time contributors will propose and start pages on additional topics and themes.
